We’re at Mollie and Lucy’s friend Will’s house in Atlanta. Will and his family have been very gracious to open their home (a very nice condo in the city) to us for two nights.
The parking garage has a 6’ height restriction so Will’s dad Bill found a parking lot about 3 blocks away that I was able to park the RV at for the weekend.
Will’s mom Sandra made a nice homemade dinner which was a real treat. After dinner Lucy went swimming in the roof top pool and entertained two little girls (4&5 years old) who were there with their families.
From the roof top we were able to enjoy the pleasant evening and admire the Atlanta skyline.
Yesterday we visited the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC
250 rooms and well appointed. I enjoyed the history and details of the audio tour
Then it was on the road to Atlanta, we made a stop at a very large farmers market complex just outside Asheville and another stop at a flea market in Clayton GA
Both times I was able to take a short nap to refresh
Our most pressing issue of the compost was solved at the flea market when I woke up thinking I really needed a shower (which I did) but realized it was mostly the compost
So I whisked it into the woods and shared it with the wildlife
Hope I’m forgiven if this is considered littering but it was all organic
Bill had warned that they were getting a storm in Atlanta as we approached
Just north of Atlanta we hit the edge of the storm
Mollie commented that it looked something like a tornado which I dismissed until the just ahead the leaves were blowing sideways out of the trees
I wasn’t concerned until parts of trees in the form of branches started flying sideways in front of us and hitting the side of the RV
We quickly ducked under the next overpass (along with 3 or 4 other cars) and waited 15 minutes until the wind calmed down some
The rain was torrential so the driving was slow for a while but the skies cleared some as we pulled into Atlanta and located Will and his family
This morning Sandra and I walked the dogs and then walked to the parking lot to check on the RV
I was pleased to find it still there since the auto attendant wasn’t working so I had no paid ticket on my windshield if someone came to check and tow
Later today we will walk around the city and take in a Atlanta Dream (WNBA women’s pro basketball) game
This part of Atlanta is very nice and has lots of trees (some of which we trimmed a bit with the RV)
We plan to leave tomorrow morning
I always want to leave earlier than we actually do get on the road
Monday morning traffic will justify a later departure tomorrow anyway so it won’t feel like we’re losing any time
Next stops:
Pam Pullins in Alabama
New Orleans
West to Texas
North to Kansas
Four Corners
Maybe Ren Fest in CO
Grand Canyon!!!
Las Vegas
San Diego
LA
San Fran
While we brought some movies, Lucy would use more movies, she’s very selective (not action/scary)
We hit a flea market yesterday and picked up three more to keep us going
She watches them during long stretches of boring road
Mollie & Lucy have watched two movies in the evening
Here’s an odd request:
Can we borrow a DVD movie or two and mail them back to you after they are watched?
Jay
I could send movies to Diane's house in NOLA and you can send them back when you're done. I will look through our collection and send you a list of ones you may like. Then you can let me know yay or nay! :)
ReplyDeletehere are some dvd's we have. Let me know if any of them appeal to you and I'll send a few your way via diane's house.
ReplyDeleteMusicals:
Oliver, Grease, State Fair, Sound of Music, Carousel, King and I, Oklahoma, South Pacific
Disney:
Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Shrek 1 &2, The Incredibles, all 3 Pirates of the Caribbean
Others:
Holes, Agent Cody Banks, Spy Kids, A Cinderella Story, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Master of Disguise, Night at the Museum, My Dog Skip (sad), Pink Panther (original and remake), Mean Girls
You are welcome to any movies we have that appeal although I am not sure we have any that aren't on Denise's fabulous list. One major exception is The Wizard of Oz, which is a very important movie in our neck of the woods. (Well, there may be another expression used by the locals here since there are no native trees, but you get the point...)
ReplyDeleteOur house can also be a receiving point for movies if anyone is mailing them out to you....
We love reading of your adventures and can't wait until you get here.
And, please warn Lucy, in terms of boring long stretches of road--she ain't seen nothin' yet!
XOXO
