from Mesa Verde Sat 7/2

It’s hard to keep track of the days

We have no schedule so we don’t look at a calendar

We have to ask each other often what day it is when we write post cards or I’m planning for campgrounds (weekends are busier for RV parks)

We didn’t make it anywhere near as far as I had hoped

I let the girls sleep in some due to their possible colds

And made a big breakfast

And coached the girls as the dumped the black and gray water tanks themselves for the first time

And filled up with gas

So we weren’t really rolling until 11a

Then we stopped at the Rainbow Grocery in search of a Colorado sticker

That place was packed and frenzied with weekenders

We got some groceries and various other items (but no sticker)

We need stickers for AL, TX, KS and CO

We’re falling behind

The stickers seem to be hard to come by out here

We also stopped in Pagosa Springs to look for a sticker and did some shopping instead

t-shirt

ice cream

tried on lots of cowboy boots

Lucy got a pair

then went to the Methodist church thrift store on the back street where I parked and found a pair of cowboy boots in my exact size for $20!

Then we stopped and farm stand that had a great selection and bought more food

We have lots of food to eat, just needs to be prepared

We did our part to support the economy of CO today!

Speaking of eating, after we set up at the RV park across from Mesa Verde, I made the following

Salad with carrots

Sliced some bagget

Mac & cheese

Fresh strawberries for dessert

Tomorrow the plan is up early (that’s always the plan)

Head to mesa verde and tour for a couple of hours

To four corners

Then boogie to grand canyon village if we can make it

We can get a camp site with full hook up for two nights in the village if we think we can make it tomorrow

Having a goal like that usually motivates me to push to get there

We’ll see

On a disappointing note, we have bagged the conceit of keeping compost

After fermenting a second batch for a lack of an outlet to place it the compost is going in the garbage

I was ready to ditch the recycling too for lack of receptacles but Lucy came up with the plan of storing it under her bed in the grocery bags we collect it in

We’ll see how long it takes us to fill the space

I am disappointed that campgrounds don’t have resources for composting and recycling!

More later
