Stolen food!

Shortly after crossing the CA state line all traffic had to stop for a agricultural inspection station. I'm thinking livestock inspection and figured we'd be waived through. But no, it was food insoection. They wanted to know what fruits, vegetables & plants we had on board. And they confiscated the NY Macintosh apples I had left ("no NY apples for sure!" was the inspectors comment) and other fruits and veggies. I was really pissed when she took the three ears of fresh sweet corn that we had just purchased from Whole Foods hours before!  The girls and I had just had a conversation about the corn for dinner and I was so looking forward to it. I asked if CA was going to pay for the food they were taking and of course she said no but they were protecting their large agricultural industry. Welcome to California!

PS I've long been a fan of buying local (to support the local farmers & economy, reduce petroleum use for trucking, etc) but this will really motivate me to buy local at home. And NOT California produce!

  1. I would have pulled over to the shoulder of the road and cooked and ate the corn right there!
