thoughts

We hope to arrive home tomorrow evening some time

Can’t wait!

Some thoughts and observations:

-We’ve slept in 32 different places during the trip

-We haven’t had a single camp fire (and therefore no s ’mores)

It was too hot to have campfires some of the time and they were very restricted in many places we traveled

-We never used the folding chairs that are strapped to the bumper (they were for camp fires)

-I wish I had brought along the beaded seat cover to get some airflow under my butt, so hot and sticky all the time!

-We haven’t watched any TV in nearly 6 weeks save some shows while in the waiting room of the garage in Lake Charles, LA

-When we arrive home tomorrow we’ll have been on the road 1 day short of 6 weeks!

-I took over 4 weeks to get to CA and less than 2 weeks to get home

-We’ve eaten very little fast food, I think Sonic is the only real fast food we hit and that was to satisfy Lucy’s curiosity

-We ate in restaurants well less than 10 times total

-we ate way to many carbs and not enough protein over the last two weeks as we’ve been sprinting home and not stopping for real meals as much

-we spent too much time on the first half of the trip so we’ve had to sprint home on the second half

-we should have planned for another couple of weeks for the trip so we could go easy on the way home

-what! 8 weeks would really put me over the edge!

-we met lots of really great new people in our travels: chance meetings, planned meetings, brief encounters and longer ones

We’ll actually stay in touch with some of them too

-there are some really nice roads (straight, flat and smooth) in many places and some really NOT nice roads too

-I went through more than two full pocket note pads during the trip (I make lots of notes: morning departure list, topics to blog about, food shopping lists, auto parts store lists, RV dealer lists, etc)

-I even have a list of to be published “close calls” from the trip and the ants we had to get rid of over the first couple of weeks

-I may float a book or movie deal about our odyssey (Tom Cruise should be cast to play meJ)

-I feel like I know some of the AAA road service dispatch staff personally (never did end up using road service)

-we have done our part to support the US economy! Especially  the gas companies L

-it seems Mollie is planning on living someday in almost every place we stooped along our route (although those plans/dreams did cease abruptly after San Fran when we headed across the northern part of our route)

Stay tuned for a few more posts…

In theory they’ll get done after we land safely home although there is a chance life will get in the way

There is a whole story of the odyssey leading up to departing on the trip that needs to be told yet (there’s the part about getting the RV home from Boston (where I bought it) in December and having to walk the last mile home in a snowstorm, after the plow truck gave me a ride the 25 miles before that)

If there isn’t a real book deal maybe a web-published book of the pix and some of the blog posts

Anybody know a good source?

Jay
